We loved working on this project! The family preferred clean, soft, textural, natural materials in neutral colors to create a calm atmosphere for the home. The design direction is a sophisticated, relaxed, slightly ‘BEACHY’ look for this beautiful 8,000 square foot home located in Katonah, NY.
Phase one of the project included renovating two bathrooms, extensive custom millwork and built-ins, paint and wallpaper for several rooms, additional lighting, and lots of new furniture and window treatments.
Furniture plans with 3D views were created to help understand new furniture placement and layouts for maximum seating. The large bright solarium, received a built-in bookcase and new window treatments to maximize the views of the gorgeous outside landscape and become a place for the family to relax, read and play games. The adjoining living room is now lighter and brighter with the use of better proportioned and placed furniture with soft lines and comfortable upholstery. The sentimental vintage Merri-Go-Round horse was the inspiration for the color pallet and added whimsey to the entire space.
The master bedroom now boasts a large custom built-in window seat in the large turret, which also doubles as a place for storage. It has become the most beautiful, relaxing place to sit and read. The high ceiling and crystal chandelier above reflects the light on the walls as if on a boat in the middle of the water. It plays off the blue painted walls and accessories for a truly calming atmosphere.
The master bedroom and living room fireplaces received a complete makeover. A new custom panel design replaced the existing mantle and encompassed the whole wall creating a unique focal point for the rooms, complete with new stone surround.
The master bedroom study also received a full remodel. A custom built-in desk-bookcase area now has plenty of room for books, organizing paperwork, and quiet work-from-home days. Even a hidden desk extension was built in for the kids to do homework with a parent. A wall mounted TV and seating allow for the whole family to chill out together and enjoy a movie.
In the dining room, a custom dining table to comfortably sit 18 people with the use of a hidden ‘butterfly leaf’ in the center, was specially built for this family that loves to entertain and have large gatherings. It will certainly become an heirloom piece for the family to enjoy for years to come.
Even a heart shaped stone was imbedded into the custom cement, royal blue countertop in the poolside bathroom, to remind us all that family is the heart of the home! (photos by Kyle J. Caldwell)
