Sotheby’s was founded in London on March 11, 1744, when Samuel Baker auctioned “several hundred scarce and valuable books” from the library of Sir John Stanley for a few hundred pounds. Since then, Sotheby’s has distinguished itself as a leader in the auction world…
I had the privilege of taking a VIP tour of the building, the 20th Century Furniture Exhibition, auction room and new onsite Gallery yesterday. It was awesome! Located on York Ave. and 71 street in NYC, the exhibits are open for public viewing. They have also updated their website to include viewing of auctions in real time. If you have a little extra cash and see something that you like, you can now bid remotely from your own home without joining the crowds onsite.
