As part of my October participation in Designer Discovery, linking designers with brands, I had the pleasure of researching the Serena Dugan Studio.

Originally one of the founders of the home and lifestyle brand Serena & Lilly, Serena Dugan is an artist at heart. She chose to leave her original company to create a new namesake studio that focuses exclusively on her passion for art and travel. Her beautiful textiles and wallpaper are inspired by the color, artisans and architecture that she has encountered in her explorations to various countries around the world.

“Serena’s rallying belief is in the power of art to transform an environment into an experience. This can take the form of an energetic painting or a striking pattern that defines and enlivens a space. Her background in both mediums allows her to toggle between the two as she explores the themes of rhythm and form. With pattern, her focus is on creating harmony through repetition, shape, and placement.”

Her fabrics are made from 100% Belgium Linen, designed and hand printed in California. Her wallpapers are printed on water-based titanium and clay-coated vellum or grasscloth, depending on the design. Here are a few of Serena’s beautiful collections below.

We can’t wait to incorporate the lively art and designs from the Serena Dugan Studio into our Interior Design projects!

The common element throughout is good design. There’s always a reason why an element is chosen for a certain place, whether it’s a colorful painting in a room or a specific fabric on a chair. There’s also a functionality to every item that is unique to each project’s solution. It’s sort of like an oversized jigsaw puzzle with a place and reason for each piece.

“Your rooms are like a painting. Each component is a brushstroke to create the whole picture. It’s magic every time!”
