On my recent trip for the KBIS/IBS trade show with my designer colleague from California, I had an opportunity to view the outrageous hotels on the Las Vegas strip. Having never been there before, and it was not on my bucket list, I had no idea what to expect. It did not disappoint!

Lights and More Lights

It was actually a visual candy store filled with brilliant over the top design, lights, sparkle and vivid color. The hotel lobbies were breathtaking, and the food and restaurants were top shelf. A highlight of the trip was seeing two shows. For both shows we sat in the middle of the theatre while acrobats, dancers, and singers moved around the stage to music and light shows. It blurred the lines between performers and spectators.

Over-the-Top Hotels

Since it was the Lunar New Year and 2025 is the Year of the Snake, many of the hotel lobbies celebrated with colorful installations, waterfalls, lights, and so many gorgeous flowers. Hotels like the Venetian, inspired by Venice Italy, have an actual river floating in the middle of the space with gondolas and singing gondoliers.

The New York and Paris Hotels expertly transported you to those locations with a very realistic Eiffel Tower that sparkled at night, while the Belaggio had everyone gathering for the fountain show, complete with music and lights.

However, the most amazing site was the SPHERE. A dome-like structure that is actually a concert hall. The inside is set up as a theatre and the outside shows brilliant colorful moving imagery. Recently, people have been going to see concerts and they said it is the most captivating experience ever. Now, THAT will be on my bucket list!

The common element throughout is good design. There’s always a reason why an element is chosen for a certain place, whether it’s a colorful painting in a room or a specific fabric on a chair. There’s also a functionality to every item that is unique to each project’s solution. It’s sort of like an oversized jigsaw puzzle with a place and reason for each piece.

“Your rooms are like a painting. Each component is a brushstroke to create the whole picture. It’s magic every time!”
