After successfully renovating the family room and entryway of their contemporary home, our clients were ready for the next step in their full gut renovation—transforming their outdated 1980s kitchen. This space was in need of a serious makeover, but it had one standout feature: an abundance of natural light streaming in from a wall of windows in the attached sunroom.

Transforming the Space

To expand the kitchen’s footprint, we reconfigured the laundry room by stacking the washer and dryer and installing new double doors for easy access. The sunroom’s plastic dropped ceiling panels were replaced with sleek drywall to seamlessly match the existing ceiling. Additionally, we removed a pantry next to the sliding glass door, replacing it with a tall cabinet featuring pull-out shelving for better storage and efficiency. A new, larger picture window was installed above the sink, enhancing both the natural light and the stunning landscape views.

Another major change improved the kitchen’s flow—by shifting the original seated island a few feet into the kitchen, we created space for a dining table and chairs in the newly refined sunroom area.

Finishing Touches

The kitchen will showcase an elegant monochromatic palette, featuring deep charcoal (almost black) base cabinetry paired with crisp white uppers for a striking contrast. Lighting plays a key role in the design, with recessed and under-cabinet fixtures providing functionality, while pendant lights over the island and a chandelier above the dining table add warmth and ambiance.

This reimagined space will be the heart of the home for this young family of four. With a husband who loves to cook, the new kitchen will be a perfect blend of beauty and function—designed for everyday meals, gatherings, and memories to come.

Stay tuned for the next phase of this renovation and the highly anticipated “After” photos!

The common element throughout is good design. There’s always a reason why an element is chosen for a certain place, whether it’s a colorful painting in a room or a specific fabric on a chair. There’s also a functionality to every item that is unique to each project’s solution. It’s sort of like an oversized jigsaw puzzle with a place and reason for each piece.

“Your rooms are like a painting. Each component is a brushstroke to create the whole picture. It’s magic every time!”
