A Peaceful Primary Suite Refresh

Our clients recognized their bedroom and bath were in need of a transformation. There were structural issues and spatial constraints that had to be addressed first, and then we focused on creating a thoughtful design that fulfilled the vision of a functional yet tranquil sanctuary.

Reimagining the Spaces

Everything was old, outdated, and starting to fail. The angled high ceiling left the room very cold and drafty. Water leaking from the existing shower created a danger of flooding the floor below. The closet entrance was poorly located right next to the shower, making the space very tight. An unused platform bathtub took up most of the room and there was not enough counter space at the vanity.

Restful Bedroom Reset

We started with the ceiling. The previous one was very tall, angled, asymmetrical, and unbalanced. We lowered it to a perfect height and created a tray ceiling to add visual interest to the room. Next, an exterior window was removed, so the bed frame is now situated against the exterior wall. Then, the space was elevated with molding, edge lighting, and soothing paint colors. Finally, new furniture, artwork and bedding were added for a comfortable and cohesive look. Now, when someone enters, the focus is on a beautiful bed and a decorative chandelier that hangs in the center of the room.

Closet Makeover

To improve flow and address structural issues, the closet entrance was moved into the bedroom, and a pocket door was used to save space. The ceiling was lowered to a comfortable height, framing the existing skylight which provides beautiful natural light. Then, a window in the closet was eliminated, allowing for more storage. We also created a custom cabinet layout, giving the client a place for everything exactly as she wanted it. Lastly, we added the finishing touches, installing edge lighting behind the new crown molding to create a warm, calming glow across the ceiling.

Revamping the Bath

The first step was to move the entry of the bathroom over to the right of the room to allow for the new layout. To bring more light, a larger bright shower with a linear trench drain was installed. Next, a custom vanity with a seated makeup area and room for storage was added, paired with a new radiant heated floor. Then, to take advantage of the beautiful Hudson River views, a new picture window was positioned in the space.

The serene calming qualities of the primary suite help the clients start every day on a positive note from the moment they wake up. Now that these rooms are finished, we’re moving on to the rest of the home. Watch for “After” photos of the whole home to come.

Can’t wait to show you what we are working on next!

The common element throughout is good design. There’s always a reason why an element is chosen for a certain place, whether it’s a colorful painting in a room or a specific fabric on a chair. There’s also a functionality to every item that is unique to each project’s solution. It’s sort of like an oversized jigsaw puzzle with a place and reason for each piece.

“Your rooms are like a painting. Each component is a brushstroke to create the whole picture. It’s magic every time!”
