Speaker Event ~ Gabriella Mirabelli

We loved having Gabriella Mirabelli join us as a guest speaker recently to share her insights into the inspiration and creative process that drives her captivating artwork. She is an artist, working primarily in acrylic who is based in Croton-On-Hudson. Her paintings are grounded in the elements we see in nature and combine landscape impressionism and abstract realism. Gabriella uses her work to explore our relationship to the world using lines, shadows, shapes and color.

Prior to focusing on fine art, she was the CEO and co-founder of ANATOMY, a creative services agency creating award-winning short-form content for all platforms and screens: mobile, computer, television, theatrical, sports arena, and environmental displays.

Gabriella’s Artistic Beginning

Her interest in art and the natural world goes back to childhood. Art has always been a safe space to explore her creativity. Gabriella’s journey began with her mother handing her paper and saying, “Instead of feeling bored, draw.” However, her Nana’s early influence paved the way for her to become an artist. Her grandmother was an amazing artisan who taught Gabriella color theory and what makes something pop. Her Nana’s support and patience have had a lasting impact on Gabriella.

Acclaimed Artwork

Gabriella’s work has been shown in current and past regional and national exhibitions, earning her the ‘Made in NY 2023 Jurors’ Choice Award.’ She has won numerous grants and awards, including an Emmy in 2008. Her work is also held in private collections throughout the US and Europe.

Gabriella shares, “I simplify natural forms into abstract compositions, highlighting how shadow defines light. My focus is on their interplay, inviting viewers to experience fleeting moments that reveal a familiar truth within their transience.”

A Few Tips on Buying Art

Gabriella sees the artist’s creative process and a viewer’s interpretation of it as codependent, two sides that need each other. For an artist to know a piece speaks to someone is powerful and wonderful. That’s what it’s all about.

 She also emphasized:

  • Embrace what you love. Whatever you think about art is valid. There’s no right or wrong way to connect with artwork.
  • Ask questions and be honest, interested and engaged with the artist,  even if you do not buy a piece of art.
  • Purchasing directly from an artist’s studio is less expensive because the gallery does not take a share.
  • Buying from a gallery or works costing over $5,000 tend to be more negotiable.

Gabriella shared how her career started as an artist, what inspires her and the joy it brings to share her work with others.

The common element throughout is good design. There’s always a reason why an element is chosen for a certain place, whether it’s a colorful painting in a room or a specific fabric on a chair. There’s also a functionality to every item that is unique to each project’s solution. It’s sort of like an oversized jigsaw puzzle with a place and reason for each piece.

“Your rooms are like a painting. Each component is a brushstroke to create the whole picture. It’s magic every time!”
