Timeless Sophisticated Living

A couple with two small children reached out to us about updating their Westchester, NY home.

The Ask: change the house’s style to reflect a more transitional design that features a combination of traditional and modern contemporary, big windows and a lot of natural light.

The Update: included a family and living room, as well as primary and guest bedrooms. Plus, the renovation of an empty 1,300 square foot basement into a multi-purpose entertainment space.

Family Room
This large space with the floor-to-ceiling stone fireplace and clerestory windows was in need of an interior design refresh. To give the room a dramatic, yet comfortable feel that could also accommodate young children, custom built-in bookcases with cabinets for storage flanking the fireplace were added, along with lighting and accessories. Before the update, this room looked empty and unfinished. Now, it’s inviting and perfect for movie night.

Refined Primary Bedroom

The room was redesigned for comfort and beauty. A tufted, floor-to-ceiling headboard was chosen to add drama. While the rest of the space is finished in soft tones, including the sitting area with a fireplace and TV. We added built-in bookcases to each side of the fireplace and deep drawers for storage, as there was a lot of depth. The furniture is subdued and timeless, including a beautiful console that sits in between two windows fitted with luxurious, custom drapery. This bedroom has now become the perfect place to enjoy quiet time.

Unfinished Basement Transformed

The new, multi-purpose space highlights include a bar, private gym, entertainment and play area. It’s now a perfect place to relax, work out and entertain friends.

The sports-themed main room is for adults. It includes a unique bar designed with beautiful granite countertops, custom cabinetry and appliances. A pool table and dartboard provide grown up activity, while a big screen TV in custom built-in cabinetry is viewable from anywhere in the room. The cabinetry was designed to incorporate the window above the TV and showcase sports memorabilia. A 10’ x 6’ fully custom sectional was also created for maximum seating.

A gym, children’s playroom with a porcelain “wood” tile floor, and full bathroom were also included in the space-planning. Other important renovation details included the addition of steps and a cellar door leading up to the outside, larger windows to conform to egress code, walled in space at the perimeter of the main room to hide mechanical equipment and for additional storage.

We created beautiful areas for the whole family. This home now represents the true meaning of “Livable Luxury.”

The common element throughout is good design. There’s always a reason why an element is chosen for a certain place, whether it’s a colorful painting in a room or a specific fabric on a chair. There’s also a functionality to every item that is unique to each project’s solution. It’s sort of like an oversized jigsaw puzzle with a place and reason for each piece.

“Your rooms are like a painting. Each component is a brushstroke to create the whole picture. It’s magic every time!”
