Artist: Susan Lanzano, Botanical Art

“I love to use watercolors to capture the movement and spirit of botanical life. Every painting becomes, in a way, a record of my love affair with a little piece of the natural world at a specific moment in time. I feel a profound connection with my subjects as I work with them, recording each contour on paper, and it is my goal to bring others to that same intimate relationship with nature.”

Susan LanzanoSusan Lanzano’s exquisitely delicate watercolors offer a unique interpretation of botanical painting. Inspired by a lifelong fascination with the natural world, she works in a range of styles, from spontaneous Oriental brush painting on raw rice paper to highly realistic, detailed renderings in the Western botanical tradition.

The common element throughout is good design. There’s always a reason why an element is chosen for a certain place, whether it’s a colorful painting in a room or a specific fabric on a chair. There’s also a functionality to every item that is unique to each project’s solution. It’s sort of like an oversized jigsaw puzzle with a place and reason for each piece.

“Your rooms are like a painting. Each component is a brushstroke to create the whole picture. It’s magic every time!”
