I was thrilled to be asked to attend the first Designer Experience event in North Carolina. It was hosted by the magazine Editors of Home Accents Today, Designers Today and Exterior Design. It was an action packed 3 days of learning, visiting and networking!

The 40 Designers and members of the trade that attended, stayed at the beautiful Proximity Hotel, proud to be the first LEED Platinum certified Hotel in the U.S. After starting our day with 7am Yoga, we visited several manufacturers such as Thayer Coggin, a 60 year old company focused on modern, classic furniture design. We were amazed by the many wood slabs and fine stones at the Phillips Collection, learning how they acquire their materials and the refining process.

We enjoyed fresh farm to table food as we listened to interesting speakers. At The Goat Lady Dairy  we even got a chance to meet some goats with lots of personality!

The common element throughout is good design. There’s always a reason why an element is chosen for a certain place, whether it’s a colorful painting in a room or a specific fabric on a chair. There’s also a functionality to every item that is unique to each project’s solution. It’s sort of like an oversized jigsaw puzzle with a place and reason for each piece.

“Your rooms are like a painting. Each component is a brushstroke to create the whole picture. It’s magic every time!”
