Sears Kit house Renovation Update

So much planning is involved in a big renovation, even before a permit can be pulled to start the construction.

The Architect and I have had several zoom team meetings with the clients located in Texas and Westchester, to determine various adjustments needed to accommodate our wish list. These include how the grade of the property will need to be adjusted to allow for a new entrance to the basement and new porch above for the first floor off of the kitchen. How the existing basement will have to be dug out a few inches to level the broken cement floor and allow for as much ceiling height as possible.

We also discussed how the existing equipment in the basement –  heating, AC, gas, electric, sump pump, etc, will take up more physical space than originally thought when enclosing them with dry wall. For this reason we are considering utilizing a manufacturer like Resource Furniture, to create a custom wall unit that will double as a murphy bed/bookcase/table.

In October we will be meeting with the contractors for their input and to get estimates on their part of the puzzle.

Stay tuned as we continue the Design-Build process for this special home!

The common element throughout is good design. There’s always a reason why an element is chosen for a certain place, whether it’s a colorful painting in a room or a specific fabric on a chair. There’s also a functionality to every item that is unique to each project’s solution. It’s sort of like an oversized jigsaw puzzle with a place and reason for each piece.

“Your rooms are like a painting. Each component is a brushstroke to create the whole picture. It’s magic every time!”
