Sleepy Hollow Sears Kit House

Our new project is a fun challenge since its a 100 year old house!

Sears Modern Homes were catalog and kit houses sold primarily through mail order by Sears, Roebuck & Co., an American retailer, as per Wikapedia

This house is one of those homes! The last owner kept the house in the family for 90 years. Some of the details include leaded glass windows, hand carved millwork and a beautiful front porch. The family has already enlarged the kitchen to accommodate their young and extended family and have many more plans for the space.

The first Phase will include finishing the basement to accommodate out of town guests, a playroom for the kids and a snack area. A new full bathroom will be redesigned and much needed storage will be considered. Phase two will be to extend out the back of the house to enlarge the bedrooms upstairs, adding a balcony to enjoy views of the Hudson River. First floor will then have a lovely screened in porch off of the kitchen and dining room. The back yard will be graded to accommodate a beautiful garden (and maybe a swing set for the kids?!)

The common element throughout is good design. There’s always a reason why an element is chosen for a certain place, whether it’s a colorful painting in a room or a specific fabric on a chair. There’s also a functionality to every item that is unique to each project’s solution. It’s sort of like an oversized jigsaw puzzle with a place and reason for each piece.

“Your rooms are like a painting. Each component is a brushstroke to create the whole picture. It’s magic every time!”
